Autism Treatment with MeRT

To help your child, D2 Behavioral Health provides a breakthrough technology: MeRT or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy. This technology uses rTMS (repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), wherein gentle magnetic waves are used to balance and stimulate brain function. This treatment is guided by sophisticated diagnostics and imaging. And MeRT is compatible with most other types of therapy.

MeRT is a technology that aims to improve brain function and communication. The equipment used is FDA-cleared to treat Major Depressive Disorder and OCD and is used off-label to treat a variety of other conditions, including autism spectrum disorder.

Our Columbus clinic is our flagship clinic for, where all other MeRT clinic physicians are trained. We hold children and their well-being in the highest regard. We are committed to walking this journey with you and your child. Our mission is to do so with the utmost compassion and care.

What is MeRT?

MeRT stands for Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy. It's an individualized form of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), guided by EEG brain mapping rather than a generic protocol. Because autism spectrum disorder (ASD) involves differences in how the brain communicates internally, MeRT is designed to gently support and strengthen the specific brain regions where communication is underperforming for that individual.

How the Process Works

1. Brain Mapping (qEEG + EKG)

We measure brainwave activity and heart-brain coherence to build a picture of how the brain is currently functioning

2. Physician Review & Individualized Plan

A physician analyzes the results and designs a treatment protocol specific to that person's brain patterns — not a standard template

3. Treatment & Monitoring

Sessions take place in-office. A trained technician applies gentle magnetic stimulation to targeted areas, with ongoing oversight and reassessment as treatment progresses

What Families Have Reported

Documented improvements associated with MeRT protocols include gains in speech and verbal/non-verbal communication, better eye contact, improved understanding of directions, and a greater sense of calm that can reduce outbursts. Every person's starting point differs depending on where they fall on the spectrum, so results and pacing vary by individual

Is MeRT Right for My Family?

MeRT is non-invasive, drug-free, and does not require sedation. It can be used on its own or alongside other therapies your child is already receiving, and may help those other therapies work more effectively by supporting overall brain communication. Early intervention is generally associated with better outcomes, so families are encouraged to explore options as soon as possible.

MeRT® utilizes FDA-cleared TMS equipment. This equipment is FDA-cleared for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder and OCD; its use for autism spectrum disorder is off-label. MeRT is not a cure for autism, and individual results vary.
